Creating my OFFICIAL book - 20/04/2023

Image
Creating my OFFICIAL book Daisy Jackson / 20/04/2023 Today I created the official book. I did this landscape and I am very happy with the turnout. As this is a concept I decided to stick with paper, sticking both sides on the back of each other in the correct order. I then stapled the left side together and added a felt piece over the sides to act as a stimulating spine. However I did make the error again of stapling the wrong side... Another problem I came across which was out of my control is during the printing process, it must have cropped some of the image off which caused some pages to actually not have Moe inside - literally making Moe IMPOSSIBLE to find! I am not too fussed about this as it is a concept and I am just happy I have all the pages printed out and done. Obviously if I was to officially publish this, I would alter this. But I do have all the illustrations as a seperate component too for when marking occurs. I guess it is all about trial and error! Here is my official...

Altering the layout - 20/04/2023

Altering the layout Daisy Jackson / 20/04/2023 Upon feedback, it was concluded that having a physical version would be best for the project. Because creating a book can be weirdly complex, I decided to make everything A4 and landscape. This provides a large enough scale for the reader to see Moe and find everything. However, this meant that I needed to alter the front and back cover as they were set to portrait. Unfortunately I already combined all the layers of this design which made editing them to landscape quite difficult. I decided to use the original leaf layer for the background and crop the original front and back cover over the top. I then altered the saturation amongst other effects. I then added the leaf brush over the top. I was really happy with the turnout of this. It honestly looked better in my opinion!

Creating the book for 'Finding Moe' - 17/04/2023

Creating the book for 'Finding Moe' Daisy Jackson / 17/04/2023 Recently I decided to try and create my book physically. Because this would be a rough idea presentation wise, I wanted to stick to paper. However, upon trying this, I ran into many problems. Somehow I forgot the way a book works. I forgot about having the middle page etc so when I stuck the pages on the back of each other, the order was entirely wrong. This was very frustrating and I spent quite a lot of money on producing two copies of each page (in case). In the process I used both of these pages.  I also forgot to flip the front cover as it is the wrong way. This also caused me to run into a problem.  Here is what I was left with: After this, I decided to create concept ideas of what the book would look like when produced professionally. I did this through Procreate and overlayed the pages on top of an already designed plain white book. I then altred the layers to multiply so it looked more realistic.  The...

Finishing my pages for 'Finding Moe' - 04/04/2023

Finishing my pages for finding Moe Daisy Jackson / 04/04/2023 Today I finished the finding Moe pages. I decided to only do 8 as I felt like the amount I added was enough. In feedback from Molly she suggested how I should focus more on different environments maybe like a city and so on. I did try this with one of my newer ones which is why I changed the order of every page as I wanted Moe to end up in his natural habitat. I would have done more but I wanted it to be as educational and accurate as possible so the audience would not get confused. Having said this, I am satisfied with the amount of content I have for the book.  Here are my new find Moe pages: After this, I then decided to add more text pages like so: I love how I have linked everything together really nicely. It is very consistent! Lastly, I created extra pages to reveal where Moe was the entire time for those struggling: What are my next steps? My next steps is actually printing these off and creating my own book. I n...

Trialling a rough folded format for my book - 14/03/2023

Trialling a rough folded format for my book Daisy Jacskson / 14/03/2023 Today I decided to create a rough trial of how I will create my book. Ofcourse I acknowledge that there will be a spine on the book, but I wanted to see if my classic staple idea would work as well as how thick my book would be. Very happy with the turnout of this. The thickness is great as I will be creating 10 (or 10+) designs for 'Find Moe' as well as a back sheet where it tells you the location of Moe at the end. I will also be including some text congratulating the reader on finding Moe. I need to develop this further and create a hard cover. Overall, this was a great way to figure out the thickness, contents, order and so on.

Adding more 'Finding Moe' pages - 14/03/2023

Adding more 'Finding Moe' pages Daisy Jackson / 14/03/2023 Today I decided to draw more pages where you could 'Find Moe'.  Here is what I have done: I am very happy with the way this has turned out and I think it is getting gradually harder finding where Moe is. However, due to this being a children's book aimed for a target audience of 7+, I feel like the name of the shade of green is quite hard. Even I can't pronounce it.  This is something I will either edit soon or during the end. This one is perfect. Once again, it is quite hard to find him at first glance. I also love the name 'Pickle Moe'.  After further reflection, I edited the previous page to a more fitting name: This is more fitting as it is easier to pronounce and is better for the target audience of children.

Editing the front cover and adding more to the inside of my book - 09/03/2023

Editing the front cover and adding more to the inside of my book Daisy Jackson / 09/03/2023 Today I decided to make some alterations as well as adding more to the book - this includes more text and more official images to find Moe. When creating the inside and looking at everything I have produced, I noticed how my front cover did not have a spine. This is important for books so I decided to alter my design slightly. I am very happy with how everything has turned out! It looks very professional. I like adding additional illustrations which communicate the text. I am very happy with these images. For some reason it was hard to come up with! I think this is because I had to dumb it down a lot. I am unsure if I like this page or not. This is not a bad thing as at a later date I can correct this. I do love the text though as it fits with what it is communicating. I am happy with the turnout of this page. I think everything has came along rather smoothly. It is important to note I slightly ...
