Creating a mindmap on the colour green and producing ideas - 20/02/2023

Creating a mindmap on the colour green and producing ideas Daisy Jackson / 20/02/2023 Today I decided to further look into the colour green. I looked into the history of this colour as well as looking into interesting facts about it. This then allowed me to come up with interesting ideas on what format I will produce my final outcome. I loved the facts I found as I thought they were very interesting and informative. Doing this task has really helped with my idea generation. My initial ideas include creating an educational book for children about the colour green. Either this is a picture book which uses story telling, or creating another mix and match book which I did in a previous project which went extremely well.  Here are my ideas: Due to my style being quite odd and monster orientated, I thought this would be a great opportunity to experiment with this and have creative freedom. I want to explore the stories behind the colour green. Either this involves educating the child on ...

Thinking about colour - classwork - 15/02/2023

Thinking about colour - classwork Daisy Jackson / 15/02/2023 Today (13/02/2023) we were tasked to think about our chosen colour. Without writing down what the colour was, we had to draw imagery related to the colour and see if our classmates could guess what our chosen colour was. This was going to help us communicate a colour without actually mentioning it as this is a powerful form of communication. My colour was green! Everyone guessed it correctly which is great. I really enjoyed this mini task as it allowed me to think more creatively.

One day project week 3 - layering colours - 06/02/2023

One day project week 3 - layering colours Daisy Jackson / 06/02/2023 For today's one week project we were tasked to focus on layering colour. We had to think about what items and so on change colour such as an apple can be green and red, the sky can be grey and blue and so on. We were asked to think outside the box and challenge ourselves. Here are my thumbnails: After this, I brought the thumbnails to life: I then altered this design like so: I really wanted to focus on the concept of teeth changing colour depending how you treat them and I wanted to experiment with my own characters like so. I think it worked well as it is eye catching and straight to the point - the teeth are the main focus which is great and obvious. However, I did not feel like it was bold enough and did not really challenge me. It was of course better than focusing on an apple which is very obvious and boring. This is when I decided to try out a more interesting idea which then inspired me for further develop...

One day projects week 2 - Origin of colour 30/01/2023

One day projects week 2 - Origin of colour Daisy Jackson / 30/01/2023 For today's one day project, we were told to look at our favourite colour and look into the origin of that colour. We were also told to make either a drawing or a story based on the facts we have found out about this colour we have chosen. For my colour I chose green: For the colour green I found out quite a lot of interesting facts. In modern day, green is associated with nature and growth, however in other cultures, it symbolises death and even the devil. The devil actually used to be green. I found this fact in particular quite fascinating as I always associate the devil with the colour red, hense the negative connotations to red such as death, poison, heartbreak etc. This then led to idea generation: I really loved the idea of a nature devil. This shows what the colour green can be associated with in comparison to now. When googling imagery for a green devil, I came across the alcoholic drink which was inspir...

Idea generation - the colour green - 27/01/2023

Idea generation - the colour green Daisy Jackson / 27/01/2023 To begin idea generation regarding this newly introduced project, I decided to brainstorm ideas for the colour green. As this project has not been properly introduced yet, there are no issues with starting a bit earlier and figuring out some rough ideas for inspiration. Because my favourite colour is lime green, I decided to fill a page with drawings of things that are lime green. However, this then did escalate to the colour green in general which is completely fine as it was fun to dig deeper into the colour without doing any initial research first into the origins of the colour. Here is what I have done: I really enjoyed doing this task traditionall as it felt more emotive and got my creativity flowing more. I decided to go with a children-like theme with my illustrations as I feel like my final product will relate more to a younger target audience. I particularly loved my drawings of monsters as I feel like this could be...

One day projects week 1 - Colour - 23/01/2023

One day projects week 1 Daisy Jackson / 23/01/2023 For our week one one day projects launch, we focused on colour. In this mini project we were told to focus on contrasting colours while also looking at complimentary colours - telling a story and painting a picture. We were given a sheet of paint shades used for painting. On these rectangles we had to draw colourfully. I decided to do a whole half of the sheet to challenge myself. Here are my thumbnails for idea generation: Here are my favourites: I love these two due to the difference in perspective. Matt mentioned how it would be interesting to not centralise everything and focus on different angles. I think it worked really well and the colours were complimentary towards each other.  I love this one as I make use of the blue background and add white and yellow to create the illusion of the tide coming onto the beach. This is an interesting twist and plays nicely with the angles and perspective. The starfish adds a nice ex...
