Trialling a rough folded format for my book - 14/03/2023

Trialling a rough folded format for my book Daisy Jacskson / 14/03/2023 Today I decided to create a rough trial of how I will create my book. Ofcourse I acknowledge that there will be a spine on the book, but I wanted to see if my classic staple idea would work as well as how thick my book would be. Very happy with the turnout of this. The thickness is great as I will be creating 10 (or 10+) designs for 'Find Moe' as well as a back sheet where it tells you the location of Moe at the end. I will also be including some text congratulating the reader on finding Moe. I need to develop this further and create a hard cover. Overall, this was a great way to figure out the thickness, contents, order and so on.

Adding more 'Finding Moe' pages - 14/03/2023

Adding more 'Finding Moe' pages Daisy Jackson / 14/03/2023 Today I decided to draw more pages where you could 'Find Moe'.  Here is what I have done: I am very happy with the way this has turned out and I think it is getting gradually harder finding where Moe is. However, due to this being a children's book aimed for a target audience of 7+, I feel like the name of the shade of green is quite hard. Even I can't pronounce it.  This is something I will either edit soon or during the end. This one is perfect. Once again, it is quite hard to find him at first glance. I also love the name 'Pickle Moe'.  After further reflection, I edited the previous page to a more fitting name: This is more fitting as it is easier to pronounce and is better for the target audience of children.

Editing the front cover and adding more to the inside of my book - 09/03/2023

Editing the front cover and adding more to the inside of my book Daisy Jackson / 09/03/2023 Today I decided to make some alterations as well as adding more to the book - this includes more text and more official images to find Moe. When creating the inside and looking at everything I have produced, I noticed how my front cover did not have a spine. This is important for books so I decided to alter my design slightly. I am very happy with how everything has turned out! It looks very professional. I like adding additional illustrations which communicate the text. I am very happy with these images. For some reason it was hard to come up with! I think this is because I had to dumb it down a lot. I am unsure if I like this page or not. This is not a bad thing as at a later date I can correct this. I do love the text though as it fits with what it is communicating. I am happy with the turnout of this page. I think everything has came along rather smoothly. It is important to note I slightly ...

Focusing on the inside of my book - 06/03/2023

Focusing on the inside of my book Daisy Jackson / 06/03/2023 After looking into the front and back cover, I decided to play around with the contents. I wanted to introduce Moe as a character and explain the concept of the book. With children's books, its great to focus on colour and text as well as imagery. This way the child can learn from what they are reading. Having the word 'Moe' larger and in different font and colour draws more attention to it and also highlights the importance of it to the child.  I then added texture: I prefer this version as there is more going on and it is much more visually exciting to look at! The same applies here with the text as I experimented with sizes and styles. The word 'different' is represented through different sizes and styles of font to show that every letter is different. I felt like the same could be done with the word 'sizes'. I am very happy with the results of these two pages. The alteration to the word 'si...

Making the front cover - 06/03/2023

Making the front cover  Daisy Jackson / 06/03/2023 To begin with developing this idea further, I decided to play around with the front cover of 'Different shades of Moe'. I wanted to focus on the colour green obviously and wanted this evident in the front cover. Here are my experiments: With this one I thought the background was too boring. When looking at books for children's illustration I noticed that there were a lot of textures involved. I decided to experiment further with this idea. I love the blend of greens for the background of this. However, I felt like I drifted away once again from the target audience of children. The textures don't really tackle this age range and seems too sophisticated. I want something more playful. I also love how I altered the text colour to a mixture of greens as this at least is more playful and more  visually pleasing. You can clearly tell the colour focus is green. I do not like this one at all. Too much is going on and it seems t...

Making a moodboard plus creating my character - 06/03/2023

Making a moodboard plus creating my character Daisy Jackson / 06/03/2023 To help with idea generation regarding the gray tree frog I decided to make a moodboard. This way I could develop more ideas on what I want to do and accomplish. Creating my character...Moe To begin with creating my character, I needed to observe the appearance of the Gray Tree frog. I decided to use this photo for reference. I referenced these thumbnails I made: After this, I decided to try out style #1: I was very happy with this. It is clearly a frog and has a cute playful style which can attract children. However, I feel like texture is important here. I decided to try something out... This! Very happy with the results of this as you can see the textures from the photograph. This adds more to the style and makes it look more interesting. I decided to experiment more... This worked out a lot better in my head. I feel like too much is going on and takes away from the added textures. I do love it but I prefer the...
